Fourteen industries, grouped not by who has rodents — everyone has rodents — but by where a rodent bite becomes a fire, a shutdown or a death. A rat gnaws to wear its teeth down, not to eat. It strips the insulation and leaves. The fire starts after it has gone.

Pest control protects the room.

It cannot protect the cable.

Every plant on this list already pays a pest-control contractor. He baits, traps and seals the room — and has never touched the one surface that actually starts the fire. EC 7034 is the only defence at the cable itself — and it is the same coat that stops the fire the bite would have started.

01 — Inside the enclosure

Where a bite has nowhere to vent

Panels, junction boxes, distribution boards, control cabinets, machinery and mining-equipment enclosures. The rodent gets in by the same route the cable does — the gland, the knockout, the cutout at the base. Inside a closed box the bite it leaves behind arcs against everything packed around it.

Coat the wiring and the exposed surfaces inside. The rodent is turned away at the film, and if a fault still starts — from a rat, or from a loose termination — the coating denies the wiring as fuel, so flame does not travel out of the box along the cable and down the tray.

02 — Over an existing fire coat

Already fire-coated is not rodent-protected

Most plants that took cable fire protection seriously years ago already carry a water-based intumescent coating on their indoor runs. That coating carries no anti-rodent protection at all. It is not tested under RDSO/SPN/204 Annexure G, it holds no rodent rating, and it claims none. The run is fire-protected and rodent-unprotected — and has been for years.

EC 7034 goes on over that coating — indoor cable trays, cellars, basements, riser shafts, galleries and plant rooms — 0.5 mm, in two coats. Nothing is stripped, nothing is re-pulled, nothing goes out of service. The plant keeps the fire coat it has already paid for, and gains the one defence that coat never had.

Indoor installations. Over an existing coating, the old film must be sound and adhered, and a compatibility trial made on a representative length before the work is released. Fixed wiring and enclosure interiors — not the flexing length of drag-chain or trailing cables. Fire and rodent ratings stated on this sheet are for FIREX EC 7034 as tested at 1.5 mm direct to cable; the 0.5 mm overcoat build is an application recommendation. Ratings are not additive with another manufacturer’s coating.
How it goes on

Brush or spray

Applied to cable already in place. No rewiring, no re-pulling, nothing replaced.

Stays readable

The film is translucent, so markings, colours and phase identification remain visible.

Stays flexible

The cable still bends and can still be worked. Protection is at the certified film build.

Denies the cable sheathing as fuel — no fuel, no fire. And the rat that strips the insulation is turned away, so that fault never starts.
