The gap nothing else closes

Pest control protects the room.
It cannot protect the cable.

Every plant on this list already pays a pest-control contractor. He baits, traps and seals the room — and has never touched the one surface that actually starts the fire. FIREX EC 7034 protects at the cable itself — and the same coating denies the cable sheathing as fuel if a fault still starts.

01 · Inside the enclosure

When a rat bites a cable inside a closed panel

The exposed conductor can arc against nearby components and start a fire inside the box.

Panels, junction boxes, distribution boards, control cabinets, machinery and mining-equipment enclosures. The rodent gets in by the same route the cable does — the gland, the knockout or the cutout at the base.

Coat the wiring and exposed surfaces inside. The rodent is turned away at the film; if a fault still starts — from a rat or a loose termination — the coating denies the wiring as fuel, so flame does not travel out of the box along the cable and down the tray.

02 · Over an existing fire coat

Fire-coated may still be rodent-unprotected

Indoor tray runs can retain an existing sound fire coat and gain anti-rodent protection.

Many plants that protected cable runs against fire years ago already carry a water-based intumescent coating. That coating may carry no anti-rodent protection, no RDSO/SPN/204 Annexure G test and no rodent rating. A run can be fire-protected and rodent-unprotected.

On a sound, adhered and compatible existing coat, 7034 can be applied as the anti-rodent overcoat on indoor cable trays, cellars, basements, riser shafts, galleries and plant rooms. Nothing is stripped, re-pulled or taken out of service. The plant keeps the fire coat already paid for and gains the defence it never had.

Indoor installations. Over an existing coating, the old film must be sound and adhered, and a compatibility trial made on a representative length before work is released. Fixed wiring and enclosure interiors — not the flexing length of drag-chain or trailing cables. Fire and rodent ratings stated here are for FIREX EC 7034 as tested at 1.5 mm direct to cable; the 0.5 mm overcoat build is an application recommendation. Ratings are not additive with another manufacturer’s coating.
