What the building standard requires.

NBCS 2026 / SP 7:2026 / PART F - FIRE AND LIFE SAFETY

FM AND UL ARE NOT SPECIFIED.

Clause 3.5.4.4 cites IS 12458:2019 [F(34)] for these penetration seals. FM / UL certificates or ASTM reports alone do not establish IS compliance.

Both tests are required.

Fire test + mandatory hose-stream test. Require both results for the specified seal assembly.

A 2-hour wall needs a 2-hour seal.

At least 120 minutes for applicable cable / conduit openings [3.5.4.4]. Distribution-cable shaft seals at each floor must match the floor rating [3.5.5.1].

Where Part F applies.

Check occupancy, height and area. Examples: education, assembly and storage above 9 m; low / moderate-hazard industry over 2,000 m². Area triggers and shaft exclusions apply.

NBCS 2026 replaces NBC 2016.

SP 7:2026, effective 30 April 2026, provides national guidance. State bye-laws and fire-authority conditions govern acceptance; existing local bye-laws continue until amended.

B. Protect the cables passing through.

1 foot of EC 43 at every penetration. Included free.

The seal closes the gap. EC 43 limits flame spread along the cable.

C. Add circuit and panel protection.

EC 43 Survival
Critical circuits that must keep working.
Fire-pump, alarm and trip circuits: full-length protection, 240 minutes at 750°C / IEC 60331-21, in the tested system.
NBCS context: Part F, 3.5.5.2 - emergency power. Select the complete system to project requirements.
EC 7034
Thin panel wiring: fire + rodent protection.
Flexible, translucent coating. Protects the small wires that can fuel a panel fire. 120 minutes / IEC 60332-3-22, Cat A.
DC 52
Fire-retardant finish for internal panel paint.
Adds fire protection over the existing painted surface.

Local flame-spread control and full-length circuit survival are separate specifications.
